DATED 1915

A wonderful full page print suitable for framing and entitled An Interval Between Spells in the Trenches - How Our Men Spend a Day in a Rest Camp from a drawings by Private Joseph Gray of the Black Watch. It shows seven sketches of soldiers taking much needed rest behind the firing line. Joseph Gray (1890 - 1963) was a South Shields (then Co. Durham) born painter. He attended South Shields Art College. Gray's paintings are represented in several public art collections, as well as the Imperial War Museum.

One the front reverse are eleven photographic images entitled Pipes in Unexpected Places and show men from various regiments in the Indian Army playing bagpipes and drums:

This print is from an original newspaper from the date stated; not a scan and not a later re-print. A publication similar to The Illustrated London News, The Graphic was a weekly illustrated newspaper published by H. R. Baines and Company Ltd of Tallis House, Whitefriars, City of London.

The page measures overall 395 x 280 mm (15.5 x 11 " ) approx. It is printed on both sides. There is a little age yellowing. There is a small tear to the top border, which can easily be repaired depending upon which side is required to be seen. This item will be packaged in a tube.
