One of Sime's drawings or 'impressions' impressed upon his mind at various visits to the theatre (from a series commissioned by The Sketch). The caption reads "As each man is said to have his aura of coloured emanations, so it may be argue that each play has its aura, a subtle something that rises from it and working on the breain, creates impressions. Realising this, we have asked Mr Sime to visit various theatres and to do for us a series of drawings, not of the plays themselves, but of the impressions made by them upon his mind. The sixth result is given here.". A strange, dark scene showing a "judge" and a group of barristers, etc.
The Sketch was a British illustrated magazine, which focused on the theatre, high society and aristocracy, art, sport and leisure A Journal of Art and Actuality. It ran between 1893 and 1959. It was renowned for its many beautiful engravings and high photographic content.
On the reverse, the page is entitled The Stage from The Stalls with a photograph of Martin Harvey as Richard III within text/article.
