AMERICAN ACTRESS AND SINGER Drury Lane Theatre
On one side is a photographic study by Foulsham and Banfield in a "Setting by The Sketch" titled: In the Forest of Cocoanuts and subtitled Ruby and her Sambo Coons: Miss Marie George Singing "I've Got a Beau" in Sinbad at Drury Lane; with one of the verses below. It shows the American actress and singer Marie George and others.
On the reverse page it is entitled 250 Figures to Make a Man: Quaint Carved Images, Each Composed of Many Figures with a caption beneath. The photographs were specially taken for The Sketch by The Topical Press by courtesy of the owner Mr Philip Castang. It shows ten strange figures from India "and is the work of an artist now dead, who went mad..."
Provenance: The Sketch (magazine) - Publisher: George Routledge for Illustrated London News and Sketch Ltd. London 1907. A British illustrated newspaper/magazine, which focused on the theatre, high society and aristocracy, art, sport and leisure A Journal of Art and Actuality. It ran between 1893 and 1959. It was renowned for its high photographic content.
From the date stated and not a later reproduction. This is a page from a periodical and therefore is printed on both sides. It is dated on the top border 23 Jan. The page measures overall approximately 350 x 210 mm (14 x8.25inches ). There is some age yellowing around the edges with handling marks - please check the larger picture for condition. This item will be packaged in a tube and sent RM small parcels..
