An original 1896 colour plate entitled:
Autumnal Tints on Lake Erie

A beautiful colour chromolithograph print from a drawing by the german artist Ernst Heyn for the Bibliographisches Institut, Leipzig. It shows various tress in autumnal colours incl:

Rhus typhina - info. aka staghorn sumac or stag's horn sumach

Rhus Toxicodendron - info. aka Toxicodendron radicans, commonly known as poison ivy

Ampelopsis quinquefolia - info. aka Parthenocissus quinquefolia, known as Virginia creeper, five-leaved ivy, or five-finger

Liriodendron tulipifera - info. aka tulip tree, American tulip tree, tuliptree, tulip poplar, whitewood, fiddle-tree, and yellow poplar

Pinus Strobus - info. aka eastern white pine, white pine, northern white pine, Weymouth pine, and soft pine

Tsuga occidentalis - info. aka

Tsuga Canadensis - info. aka


It comes with the original tissue guard which gives a traced outline of the trees etc with their scientific names

It measures approximately 268 x 183mm (10.5" x 7"inches) including titled borders. There is some staining to border edge not effecting the printed area, most of this can be matted out in the framing process (see second scan). There is a little age yellowing, typical of prints of this age. The colours are good. It has a blank reverse
