Another of Louis Wain’s wonderful cat drawings. This one is the tale of a magic lantern show where the mouse gets the cheese and the cat audience objects and blames the projectionist. Info: Louis Wain was an English artist born Clerkenwell, London in1860. He was best known for his drawings (which often featured large-eyed cats and kittens) of anthropomorphised animals. He was a freelance artist and worked throughout the 1880's and beyond for various publications and newspapers including the Illustrated London News, The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, The Sketch, etc. He illustrated many childrens books etc. He was associated with the National Cat Club. He died in Napsbury Hospital St Albans on 4 July 1939.

The Sketch was a British illustrated newspaper/magazine, which focused on the theatre, high society and aristocracy, art, sport and leisure A Journal of Art and Actuality. It ran between 1893 and 1959. It was renowned for its high photographic content.


From the date stated and not a later reproduction. This is a page from a Victorian periodical and therefore is printed on both sides. The page measures overall approximately 350x245mm (14 x 9.5"ins.) approx. There is some age yellowing around the edges; the borders are titled, dated and numbered - please check the larger picture for condition. This item will be packaged in a tube and sent RM Small Parcels.
