The Sketch

Dated 1893

It shows sketches drawn by Louis Wain with funny handwritten caption style notes about the antics of a baby hippopotamus and its experiences when meeting a "primitive" man and an ostrich. It is a typical fun Louis Wain scene, well known for his cat pictures, but often used other animals, particularly in the early years of his career. There is the Louis Wain signature on the front of the engraving. This print is suitable for framing.

There is an unrelated print on the reverse drawn by Dudley Hardy titled In Pledge showing a gaiety style lady in what looks like a cloakroom with the assistant behind a counter.
