Original Victorian County Map of North West Scotland with Highlands and Islands
Size overall: 500x330mm (19.5x13inches).
Provenance: Edited and Published by George W. Bacon FRGS., Agent by Appointment for the Ordnance Maps, 127 Strand. London 1883.
A very detailed map with houses, farms etc named. The rail route to Stromeferry and railway stations are printed along the routes. It takes in The Outer and Inner Hebrides, with Skye, the west coast and highlands. Some of the houses, inns, farms and places of interest etc named on the map include:
On Isles of Lewis and Harris: Free Church and Manse near Ness; Lews Castle near Stornoway; Arlasick Inn, Harris Inn, Rodel Kirk and House, on Harrris.
On North Uist: L. Maddy (Lochmaddy), Fingals Furnace and Unaval. On Benbecula: Balinanish (Balivanich), Wiay Castle (poss. Borve Castle, aka Castle Wearie) near Griminish. On South Uist: Levvio or Levvic House ?, L. Skiport, Loch Druidibig (Druidibeg Druidibeag), Loch Chilloragh ?, M. Hecla, Ru Ushinish Light House, Suishievaule, Howmore, Dalburgh (Daliburgh), Harstavagh, Loch Boisdale. On Barra: Ottervore Bay, Kisamil Castle and Bay, Tangusdale. Plus: Vatersay, Barra, Mangalay, Pabbay, Sanderay.

Suitable for framing. It measures 500x330mm (19.25x13inches). It is blank on the reverse. It has an as published fold to the centre which is split at one end (2cm); easily repaired on reverse. It originally would have been in an atlas, edge mounted so as to avoid damage to the map, and not stapled. There is age yellowing. The listing images may show watermarks; these are NOT on the actual maps. This item will be packaged in a tube and sent Royal Mail Small Parcels.
