A beautiful hand colour print from steel engraving showing various medicinal plants and flowers etc. including:
Senna - Cassia acutifolia.
Colocynth - Cucumis colocynthis.
Jalap - Exogenium purge.
Castor Oil - Ricinus communis. ricin

Info. William Rhind was a Scottish born (Inverlochy 1797 -1874) Scriptural geologist, botanist, doctor etc. This was a series he first produced in about 1841 and continued through eight later editions ending in 1877 after his death. There are subtle differences in the prints between the different editions. sleekburnc.
Suitable for framing. It is titled on the top edge (see scan) with subtitles. Publishers name on bottom edge. It measures overall 250x165mm (9.75 x 6.5inches) approx. There is a little age yellowing but otherwise in a good, clean condition. It has a blank reverse. This item will be shipped in a board backed envelope, and protected inside that envelope by a plastic sleeve. Any watermarks appearing on my listing images do not appear on the actual print. A scan of the provenance is available on request; this would be sent digitally.
Our use of the term " original print" is a pictorial image made in a manner which allows it to be multiplied, and originating from the date stated; this includes examples of various methods of printmaking including steel, copper and wood engravings, etchings, woodcuts, lithographs etc. Many prints/maps would have been originally bound in a book at some time as was this one.
