VALENTIA IRELAND Atlantic Telegraph Cable SIR ROBERT PEEL

 

A half page print from a weekly issue of The Illustrated London News from 1865 entitled:
The Laying of the Atlantic Telegraph Cable: Sir Robert Peel Addressing Bystanders After Connecting the Shore End of the Cable with the Telegraph House at Valencia.

The shore end lands at Valentia (the title states Valencia) Ireland. There is a very good length article on the reverse (the beginning of which is missing), which completes on the front of the page beneath the engraving.

There is also an engraving of the Goodwood Cup – Equestrian Statue of Queen Elizabeth. On the reverse are two other racing trophies from Goodwood – The Chesterfield cup, Leonora and the spectre lover; and the Stewards cup – Robin hood winding the Morte.

 

CONDITION/DIMENSIONS

The page measures overall 360 x 260 mm (14 x 10.25 " ) approx. There is a little age yellowing with some spotting, light handling marks and creases - please see scans. This being a page from an illustrated newspaper, it is printed on both sides. This item will be packaged in a tube.
