CAREX speirostachya 

A beautiful hand coloured print from engraving showing the grass, seed, stem, root, etc of the Carex Speirostachya or Dense Short Spiked Carex. It is dated April 1st 1833.

Provenance: Supplement to the English Botany of the Late Sir J. E. Smith and Mr Sowerby - by William Jackson Hooker and other Eminent Botanists - Figures by James de Carle Sowerby - Published: Sold by the Prop. C. E. Sowerby 3 Mead Place, Lambeth; Longman and Co. and Sherwood &Co. Paternoster Row 1834.

From the date stated and not a later reproduction. It measures overall 233mm x 142 mm ( 9.25 x 5.5 inches) approximately. The print bears the plate marks around the edges from the printing process. There is a little age yellowing. There is very slight bleedthrough of print from original pages. Please check the larger picture for condition.This item will be shipped flat in a board backed envelope, and protected inside that envelope by a plastic sleeve.
